Costco Montclair (California) has new gas pumps. For Bredemarket readers east of Fontana I’ll explain the significance.
The beginning
They ttore down the KMart and the Discount Uptown Casuals to build the Costco.

When built, the new Costco had plenty of parking. Seemingly.
But between the popularity of the Discount Uptown GAS and the Costco itself, I often ended up parking in the far northwest corner of the lot. Often I’d get my gas at the northeast corner, drive to the northwest corner to park, then walk to the Costco.
Until…
The middle
…the entire northwest corner of the lot was completely closed due to construction.
This was a good thing, because the construction was for a new set of gas pumps.
But it was also a bad thing, because the crowded parking conditions became impossible, weekends or weekdays. And the line of backed-up cars on Central Avenue trying to get into Costco got longer and longer.
In fact it was so bad that one afternoon I drove to Costco, couldn’t find a parking place at all…and left.
So this morning I drove there for gas and shelled pistachios, uncertain whether I’d stay or have to drive out to Rancho Cucamonga. (I really wanted gas and pistachios.)
When I arrived, I saw that the gas pumps on the northeast corner were closed. Because…
The late middle (not the end)
…the new gas pumps on the northwest corner are now open.
And the line was surprisingly short. And I soon discovered why.

There are now twice as many gas pumps. Where the old area had 2 pumps per lane, this has 4. With sensors to show when a gas pump is available.
So I got my gas very quickly and moved on to other stuff.

So why did I label this the “late middle” rather than the end? Because parking remains limited until they pave paradise—I mean the old gas pumps—and put up a parking lot.
Until then, hang tight. But at least the gas line will move more quickly.
