A Thousand Million Reasons Why Loaned Media Is Not For You

The old advice to rely on owned media rather than loaned media is proven thousands of millions of times over.

Just when I think that Meta is displaying its complete incompetence in serving Bredemarket’s prospects, LinkedIn approaches and says, “Hold my cerveza.”

It recently received a message from a self-described LinkedIn partner with a LinkedIn email address. The email began with the following:

“Noté que Incode Technologies, Inc. no está anunciándose actualmente en LinkedIn. Con más de 1.2 mil millones de profesionales y 71 millones de empresas en la plataforma, incluyendo al 98% de los CEOs de Fortune 500, es muy probable que una parte relevante de su público objetivo ya esté en LinkedIn.

And this was the concluding call to action:

“¿Tendría 30 minutos para conversar y evaluar si una estrategia de LinkedIn Ads podría tener sentido para Incode Technologies, Inc. en este momento?”

Due to my amazing perceptive skills, I immediately noticed two things about this message.

  • The message was written in a language not native to me. Even though it took mere seconds to translate the message into something I could read easily, this was an additional step of friction. If I wasn’t curious, I never would have read the message at all.
  • The message assumed that I was responsible for Incode Technologies’ ad spend. I haven’t worked for Incode in over three years, and even when I did, I didn’t touch ad spend with a 3 meter pole.

So someone representing LinkedIn, with a LinkedIn email address, just made LinkedIn look amateurish.

Hey, unnamed salesperson, run this tactic past Copilot and see if it’s a winner. As for me, I won’t spend a single peso on LinkedIn advertising if this is how they do it.

But at least I was reminded of the “thousand million” way of stating numeric values. Handy to have in my back pocket.

¿Sí? ¡No!

The Other Biometric Marketing

If you appreciate the difference between biometrics and biometrics, you’ll recognize that some biometric marketing does not involve competitive analysis, case study creation, or proposal management.

“Biometric marketing research relies on biometric data like physiological and neurological responses to understand the emotional and cognitive reactions of consumers to marketing stimuli.”
