Happy CalPrivacy Delete Week

Are you celebrating CalPrivacy Delete Week? This post tells you how to mark the occasion.

So what is Delete Week? The press release says that Delete Week, October 12-16, is “a new annual privacy awareness initiative designed to help Californians better understand their privacy rights and take meaningful steps to protect their personal information.”

In California the big deletion tool is DROP, which stands for Delete Request and Opt‑out Platform. DROP lets you “delete personal data held by registered data brokers.”

Of course, this doesn’t cover unregistered data brokers, or people who call phone numbers at random. But to contact the registered ones, go here.

By the way, as long as you’re dropping, you might as well cover and hold on. The Great California Shake Out will take place at 10:15 am PDT on Thursday. (I’ve marked this before.)
