I haven’t talked about tires lately, but since I am a California resident I need to talk about this.
“California has adopted the nation’s first efficiency standards for replacement tires, establishing rolling-resistance and wet-grip requirements that will begin applying to covered tires manufactured in 2029.”
I think we intuitively understand what wet-grip is. But what the heck is rolling-resistance?
“Rolling resistance is expressed as a rolling resistance coefficient, or RRC, in newtons per kilonewton. A lower number indicates less energy loss as a tire rolls.”
Of course these requirements, and the more stringent ones headed our way in 2033, will make replacement tires so expensive that more of us will flee to South Dakota.
In that state a man can live free and drive on completely bald tires with no tread without having a bureaucrat interfere with his God-given right to use 15 gallons per mile.
